Oil-field shops, yards and metal buildings
The West Side runs on oil, and that means a lot of working buildings: metal shops and warehouses, equipment barns, field offices and modular buildings in the service yards along Highway 33 and Highway 119. Those roofs see hard use, and they tend to fail in the same few ways:
- Metal roofs that leak at the fasteners. Metal panels expand in the afternoon heat and shrink again at night. Over the years that movement works screws loose and opens up laps and seams. Spray foam sprayed over a sound metal roof covers the fasteners and seams in one continuous layer and adds insulation, and a coating protects the foam.
- Long, low roofs on modular buildings and field offices. These are a good fit for a white TPO roof or a roof coating, depending on what is up there now.
- Older flat roofs downtown. Parapet walls, scuppers and roof drains on older commercial buildings collect debris, and water that can't get off the roof finds its way in.
- Dust and grime. Oil-field dust and wind-blown dirt settle on everything. On a white roof that film cuts down how much sun the roof reflects, and around drains it holds water. An occasional cleaning and a roof inspection keep small problems small.
We use Mule-Hide silicone and acrylic coatings, and depending on the system a coating can last in some cases up to 20 years. When it wears, it can be cleaned and recoated instead of replaced. For active leaks, see commercial roof repair, or read about all of our commercial roofing services.
Roof work that fits around your operation
A shop or yard can't always stop for a roof. Before we start, we talk through the schedule with you: which areas we will be working over, where materials and equipment will sit, and what to expect day to day. If a leak can't wait, office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week, and someone is on call after hours at (661) 213-2203. We tarp roofs in emergencies to help limit damage until the repair can be made.
Homes in Taft, Taft Heights and Ford City
Taft's neighborhoods have plenty of older single-story homes, many of them re-roofed more than once, along with newer houses on the edges of town. For homes we do roof replacements and roof repairs. Shingle products we install include GAF, Owens Corning and Malarkey, installed to the manufacturer's high-wind specifications, and a typical home re-roof takes about three days.

We also repair cracked and slipped tile and do tile lift-and-relay with new underlayment. Low, flat sections over patios and additions get TPO or a roof coating, because shingles need slope to shed water. Swamp coolers are still common on West Side rooftops, so we flash and seal around cooler stands, and if you are taking a cooler out, we close up the opening in the roof. If a storm damaged your roof, we can help with your insurance claim. More on our residential roofing work.
Heat, wind and the occasional hard rain
Summers in Taft are long and hot, and wind picks up in the afternoons and when storms blow through. Rain is light most winters, but when a real storm does come, it finds every weak spot at once: lifted shingle edges, cracked flashing, open seams and clogged scuppers. Before the rainy season, or after a windy stretch, it is worth having a roofer look at the edges, ridge and drains. Warranty length depends on the roof system, typically 20 years.
Taft roofing FAQ
Do you serve Taft Heights, Ford City and Maricopa?
Yes. We serve Taft, Taft Heights, Ford City, Maricopa and the rest of the West Side, including Fellows, Derby Acres, McKittrick and oil-field properties outside town. Call (661) 213-2203 to set up a free estimate.
Can you spray foam over the metal roof on our shop?
Often, yes. If the metal is sound, we clean and prep it, deal with loose fasteners and rusted spots, then spray foam over the panels and coat it. If the panels are too far gone, we tell you and lay out the other options in a written estimate.
Who pulls the permit for a roof in Taft?
Which office issues the permit depends on whether the property is inside city limits or in an unincorporated area such as Taft Heights or Ford City. We pull the permits for our jobs, so you do not have to.
How long does a home re-roof take?
A typical home re-roof takes about three days. Size, the number of old layers coming off and any deck repairs can change that, and we tell you what to expect before we start.
Nearby: we also serve Buttonwillow, Frazier Park and southwest Bakersfield. See every town on our service areas page.
